[本当Hontou?] Really?
[本当Hontou?] means “Really?”. Did you notice that the intonation blows up the end?
Even without using [かka?], you can create an interrogative form by raising the intonation at the end of the word.
[何時最期に使いましたかIstu Saigo-ni Saifu-wo Tukai-mashita-ka?]
When was the last time you used it?
[何時Istu?] is an interrogative word used to ask date or time. So it means “When?”.
And [最期にSaigo-ni] means “the last time”.
[使いましたかTukai-mashita-ka?] consists of [使いましたTukai-mashita] which is the past tense form of [使いますTukai-masu] meaning “use”, plus an interrogative form [かka?]
[何時かなぁIstukana] I wonder when.
[何時Istu] means “When”. [かなぁkana] concerns the end of the sentence.
We are asking ourselves a question.
[とにかく警察に届けましょうTonikaku Keisastu-ni Todokema-mashou]
Anyway, let’s repot it to the police.
[とにかTonikaku] means “anyway”. [警察Keisastu] means “the police”.
And [にni] is an auxiliary(助動詞) to express a “go”**. So here it means “to”.
The verb [届けますTodoke-masu] means “report”.
If you replace [ますmasu] with [ましょうmashou], you encourage of some kind of action.
So [届けましょうTodoke-mashou] means “Let’s report it”.
Now it’s time for the section [上達のコツJoutastu-no-kostu].
Today we’re talking about Japanese police boxes that help to maintain safety in daily life.
Most Japanese think it’s a duty to report to the police immediately, if it’s found someone’s wallet or mobile phone.
And people who have lost something immediately reports to the police what they have lost.
There is a good chance of lost items to return to their owner.
That’s why Miss. Yamada says let’s report to the police in this skit.
Japan has many small local police boxes called Koban.
The Koban system created more than a hundred year ago.
The police men who work at Koban are generally called “Omawari-san”.
Their main duties are to patrol the local area.
But their working crews a racing a scene of accident or crime and helping lost children.
And if ever you lost, remember that Koban is also the most reliable place to ask the directions.
Now let’s practice today’s basic expression once again.
Please repeat after the sample.
[どうしようDou-shiyou]
When you want to express things in the past, you are changing the [ますmasu] verb ending to [てte] and add [しまいましたshimai-mashita].
In the case of [落としますotoshi-masu] meaning “loose”, it becomes [落としてしまいましたotoshite-shimai-mashita].
Now let’s listen to today’s skit again.
[うおWow、財布を落としてしまいました。Saifu-wo Otoshite Shimai-mashita.どうしようDou-shiyou 」
[本当？Hontou? 何時最期に財布を使いましたか？Istu Saigo-ni Saifu-wo Tukai-mashita-ka?]
[何時かな～？Itu-kana?]
[とにかく警察に届けましょうTonikaku Keisastu-ni Todokema-mashou]

トム・クランシーのベストセラーであるCIA分析官「ジャック・ライアン」シリーズの新作の企画からテレビドラマ「LOST」監督のジャック・ベンダーが降板したと伝えたばかりのところに、パラマウント・ピクチャーズがケネス・ブラナーと交渉を開始したというニュースがHollywood Reporterによって明らかになった。
ケネス・ブラナーといえば俳優として各賞レースの常連であるとともに、映画『マイティ・ソー』のメガホンを取るなど、多才な人物。『マイティ・ソー』では作品に洗練さを加えたと評価も高く、アクション映画のお手並みはすでに優秀だと証明されている。
ブラナーに監督が決まれば、パラマウント・ピクチャーズは主演のクリス・パインが映画『スタートレック2（原題） / Star Trek 2』の撮影を終え次第の夏から製作に入りたいとしている。
ストーリーは「ライアンが23歳のアメリカ海軍小隊のリーダーだったとき恐ろしいヘリコプターの事故で命を失いかけたところから始まる。彼はその小隊唯一の生存者らしい」という位しか明かされていない。（後藤ゆかり）
