I’m your host, Michelle Yamamoto. And I’m Jeff Otto. Welcome to our program.


The main character of Easy Japanese is Cuong from Vietnam.
We want to study lots of useful expressions in wide variety of business and private situations together with him.

Hey, Michelle. You know what?
I was in a real panic the other day. I couldn’t find my key when I got my home.
Oh, no. I didn’t know what to do, but anyway I went slowly back down the street, and eventually I found them under the ground.
Oh, that was lucky.


Today we will be studying an expression perfect for that is an experience of job.
The basic expression is “What shall I do?”.　
[どうしよう Dou-shiyou]


Hey, that’s just I felt when I lost my keys.
[どうしようDou-shiyou] means ““What shall I do!”


Now let’s listen to today’s skit.
After visiting the bank, Cuong went back to work. When he arrives at his desk, he looked inside of his bag. Oh, oh, to his surprise. His wallet wasn’t there.


Let’s listen to the lesson 8 (eight)
[うおWow、財布を落としてしまいました。Saifu-wo Otoshite Shimai-mashita.どうしようDou-shiyou 」
[本当？Hontou?　何時最期に財布を使いましたか？Istu Saigo-ni Saifu-wo Tukai-mashita-ka?]
[何時かな～？Itu-kana?]
[とにかく警察に届けましょうTonikaku Keisastu-ni Todokema-mashou]


Now we’ll explain the expressions of the skit.
Cuong can’t find his wallet, so he says [どうしようDou-shiyou]. What shall I do!
That’s today’s basic expression.
[財布を落としてしまいましたSaifu-wo Otoshite Shimai-mashita] I lost my wallet.
[財布Saifu] is “ a wallet”. The verb [落としますOtoshi-masu] means “lose”.
[落としてOto-shite] is made by changing the [ますmasu] ending to [てte].
When this [てte] form of the verb is followed by [しまいましたShimai-mashita], it indicates that the action is carried out the past.
So [落としてしまいましたOtoshite Shimai-mashita] means “I’ve lost”.


Oh, right. That sound means that it’s time for some practices.
That’s right. Let’s practice using [しまいました Shimai-mashita]. Listen to the sentence.
[カメラを壊しますCamera-wo kowashi-masu]
[カメラCamera] is “camera”. And [壊しますkowashi-masu] means “break”.
So the sentence means “I break my camera”.
I want you to change the verb using [しまいましたShimai-mashita]. “I broke my camera”
Hear the question sentence once again. [カメラを壊しますCamera-wo kowashi-masu]
It must be [カメラを壊してしまいましたCamera-wo kowashite-shimai-mashita].
That’s perfect, Jeff.
[壊しますKowashi-masu] becomes [壊してkowashite].
So the right answer is [カメラを壊してしまいましたCamera-wo kowashite-shimai-mashita].
It means “I broke my camera”. Please remember that [しまいましたshimai-mashita] is used to imply a feeling of regret.
